South Florida PPG was first
established in Mobile Alabama in 1999 under the name SkyAdventures, LLC. Its
founder Carlos Segnini, a USPPA* certified Powered paraglider Instructor and
USHGA** P3 rated paraglider pilot, started flying paragliders in 1991 in his
home country of Venezuela. While attending architectural-engineering school in
the beautiful city of Merida, located deep within the Andes mountains, he spent
most of his free time soaring the ridges of that spectacular mountain region.
In the mid nineties he moved to
southern Alabama. Due to the flat geography of the area he decided to get into
powered paragliders. This gave him the ability to take-off in the flat terrains
of the gulf coast region and reach the necessary altitude where he could catch
the thermal activity that allows the paraglider to gain altitude without the use
of the motor. Now Carlos has over 17 years of experience flying paragliders and
over 11 years flying powered paragliders.
In 2004 Carlos decided to move
his training operations from Alabama to South Florida. Now the company,
properly renamed South Florida PPG, LLC., is the only fulltime certified PPG
school and dealership in south Florida. The school operates 7 days a week.
In 2005 Carlos partnered with
his longtime friend and pilot Oscar Aranguren. Oscar, also from Venezuela,
studied commercial aviation in the early nineties while being trained by Carlos
in the art of paragliding. He moved to the United States at the turn of the
century and established himself in south Florida where he once again met up with
Carlos and began his transition into PPG’s. Thanks to his aviation background
and prior paragliding experience, Oscar has become an essential member of the
Fly2Now
training team.
